Graceful Aging

  • Present Moments: Making the Most of Every Year... every moment
  • Have fun doing things that you truly want to do
  • Getting older isn’t for the weak
  • Enjoy every moment more, focus on what you really want to do instead of what you're expected to do.

Reid Tracy, the CEO of Hay House recently sent an email about Present Moments: Making the Most of Every Year. What caught my attention was when he said "Wayne Dyer used to always say getting older isn’t for the weak."
I too, hit milestone birthday (ending in zero), and while I don’t feel old, I too am becoming more aware of the passage of time. I now realize that I likely had more years behind me than ahead, and I would like to learn more how to embrace the changes that come with aging. Reading this email, I am inspired to make the most of my years. Louise Hay, who was full of energy in her late 80s, inspired him to think about living a long and vibrant life. I'd like that! Despite having more aches and pains than before, I do feel fortunate. Reid says:
The biggest thing I notice is how quickly a year flies by—it feels like just a few weeks. While some days can drag on, the years certainly don't. As time speeds by, I'm trying to enjoy every moment more, focusing on what I really want to do instead of what I'm expected to do. This week, have some fun doing things that you truly want to do 😊.

Living long and strong

Live lighter

  • Digital decluttering SYSTEM to spend MORE time doing the things you most want to do.
  • Feel LIGHTER!

Do you have hundreds of unread emails? I follow Heather of the School of living lighter.
She recently asked: Do you dream of a LIGHTER email inbox?
YES! Like her, I have spent so very much time getting rid of physical stuff, but somehow I keep on hanging on to emails "just in case". I do have strategies for organizing my emails, so I don't have to deal with them in case I "get lost" somewhere in Africa (or even Europe and decide to be off the grid). This SYSTEM is like a digital decluttering to spend less time in front of the computer and MORE time doing the things we most want to do.

Paper management

  • Best time is the present
  • Go slow to go fast - get it done now!

Handle it - photo / scan / act, then throw it. You won't have to think about it again, unless you need to.

The Power of NOW
The Power of VISION

  • NOW leads to VISION to MANIFEST

When Gene walks on the beach, there is only NOW! Then with his senses heightened, he is able to more clearly see what the future can be, and how to MANIFEST it!

Gross National HAPPINESS (GNH)

  • The key to Bhutan's happiness

As we are preparing to travel to Bhutan, I am learning about their Gross National Happiness. We had a discussion about Net Worth this morning, and the (sometimes huge) amounts we spend on our EXTENDED travel, so how can we apply the 9 domains of Gross National Happiness to measuring our "Net Happiness Worth"!

4 PILLARS of GNH:
Good Governance
Sustainable Socio-economic Development
Preservation and Promotion of Culture
Environmental Conservation

The four pillars are further elaborated into 9 DOMAINS, which articulate the different elements of GNH in detail and form the basis of GNH measurement, indices and screening tools.
Living standards
Education Health
Environment
Community
Vitality
Time-use
Psychological well-being
Good Governance
Cultural resilience and promotion

These Blog posts discuss how this can be PRACTICALLY applied in our daily lives in search of happiness!!!

Location Freedom

  • Life is short - what is true location freedom for you?
  • living where you truly want to live, how you truly want to live
  • being able to live AND work wherever you want to

I have been thinking that LOCATION FREEDOM is about being able to live AND work wherever you want to! It's about designing one's life so that they can just go wherever, and work there. Now, here's a REFRAME ... but first let me tell you a quick story.

Yesterday, my mom texted me some loving and caring thoughts. I asked her what had her say this at this moment in time. She said: LIFE IS SHORT. I know that the worst thing to live with is regret. I want my path to be clear of debris.

Today, I got an email from one of the people we invest in. Her subject read: LIFE IS SHORT. She said after the story of her parents that: Vacationing and traveling when you want is nice, but living where you truly want to live, how you truly want to live... That's true location freedom. WHOA, that is a reframe for me, and got me thinking. This Blog will be reflecting on what true location freedom is!

How to avoid pain and suffering

  • Highlight summary

Buddha says: the cause of SUFFERING is not knowing the true meaning of things. In other words, if you find positive meaning to something, the reason how this is life happening FOR you, then it eliminates suffering.

Tony Robbins says: (I paraphrase)
PAIN is when there is a gap between how you want / expect things, and how it actually is.
SUFFERING is when you feel hopeless that you can NOT do anything about it.

In these Blog posts, we explore various way to avoid pain and suffering in your life - why not?

Business, Financial Freedom and Wealth Building

Investing

  • Wizardry: leveraging other people to do the work
  • Never invest more than you can afford to lose
  • Do not invest more than what will hurt "too much"

To reach the first few levels of our Financial Freedom, we did the work ourselves within our companies and businesses. Then, to add another zero to our net worth, we wanted to do this through "wizardry" - leveraging other people to do the work investing for us, and trusting them. We have this approach - "never invest more than you can afford to lose". We have now modified this to: "and, more than what will hurt too much." It's easier to know what we can afford to lose (it won't impact our lifestyle). To figure out how much will hurt more than we want, apply the stoic way of imagining you have lost everything in the investment - how will you feel?

Millionaire Next Door Habits

  • Enjoying life, while being Frugal

I once lived in the North Shore of Boston (Beverly Farms). There was a lot of old money. By looking at the car someone drove, you could not tell how very rich they were! The Millionaire Next Door writes about this. We once lived in Marin county San Francisco Bay Area where ~80% of the cars were either Porches, BMWs, Mercedes and other luxury cars. We were fine driving our Ford Explorer knowing that we were on our way to building our sustainable wealth and achieving Financial Freedom.
